Family Support (FS)
Supports families of children from birth to 19 who would like assistance with connecting to community, provincial and federal resources and programs. The FS program can also help with strengthening caregiver/family capacity and engagement in their child’s needs. The FS program strives to practice from a family-centered (family make all decisions), trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and multi-disciplinary approach.
There is no fee for this service. For more information about services, please contact (250) 632-3144. Self-referrals are accepted.
The Family Support worker can help with:
- Information about community/provincial/federal resources and programs
- Referrals and help with connecting to other services and programs
- Supporting families’ self-advocacy skills
- Arranging transportation and accompaniment to appointments / meetings when appropriate
- Assistance with applications (ex. funding)
- Navigating and advocacy through different systems (health care, school, social service, etc.)
- Strengthening caregiver/family capacity
- Coordination of services within the KCDC
