The Kitimat Community Development Centre (Kitimat CDC) is a non-profit registered charity. We have been offering services in Kitimat since 1974. Our initial mandate was the provision of services to children with special needs. The Kitimat CDC has since evolved to offer a comprehensive list of programs outlined in our Centre’s pamphlet and on this website.
The Centre is incorporated under the Society's Act of British Columbia, thus providing accountability to both the community it serves and its funding providers. The membership on our Board of Directors is a combination of parents, business owners, and members of the community. Our first accreditation with CARF was received in November 2004. CARF, as an international accreditation body, helps the Centre's commitment to continuous quality improvement. Since 2004, we have received 3years accreditation sequentially. Our next accreditation surveyors will be here December 2016.
As an organisation committed to meet with community needs we have expanded our services.
In 2010, we became a qualified provider with CLBC-Community Living British Columbia to provide services for this population in our community. This would address a gap in services and address a growing service need. To do this our mandate is evolving and our board is taking a lead to review this, including our name, as the Kitimat Child Development Centre no longer reflects the range of services we provide.
In 2012, we began to do housing services and Welcoming Communities.
